Population 21,275 - Elevation 417m/1,368 ft

Trail, in a dramatic location on the banks of the Columbia River. Established in the 1890s Trail is home to the largest non-ferrous lead and zinc smelter in the world. Industrial tours of the Cominco smelter or the local dams can be arranged through the Chamber of Commerce. A large influx of Italian immigrants in the early 1900s has lent a distinctive character to Trail – a festive love of life experienced today in such celebrations as Silver City Days.

Grape-stomping, parades, and pasta dinners are the order of the day at this annual festival held during the second weekend in May.

A new Aquatic Centre, open seven days a week, is a popular centre of activity. The city also enjoys a tremendous tradition of excellence in sports, industry, business and lifestyle. Stop by the newly erected Home of Champions monument in downtown Trail commemorating locals who have proved themselves champions in their field.

In addition to hiking on mountain trails, you can fish the mighty Columbia River or enjoy a picnic in Gyro Park. Winter fun is only 10km away at Red Mountain and the nearby cross-country trails.
