Cranbrook
Population 20,000 - Elevation 921m/3,022 ft
Cranbrook is named the "Key City" as its strategic location
makes it the commercial centre for the region. A revitalized downtown with interesting
shops and services bounded by beautiful heritage homes make Cranbrook an interesting city
to explore on- foot. Also located downtown, the Canadian
Museum of Rail Travel preserves the glory days of the railroad, with elaborately
restored passenger cars including the sole remaining set from Canadian
Pacifics 1929 "Trans Canada Limited". You can tour these vintage cars and
take afternoon tea in the Argyle, a richly inlaid dining car.
Beyond the city, the Gothic-style St. Eugene Mission remains a nurtured
landmark. On-site also is the Ktunaxa Kinbasket
Interpretive Centre displaying historic photographs and artifacts, and
the Many Hands Cooperative where unique handmade native items are
available to purchase.
Cranbrook events include Sam Steele Days in June and the Cranbrook Pro Rodeo in
August.
