WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN…………………..

  KOOTENAY ROCKIES
TOURISM

Southeast British Columbia’s
Destination Marketing Organization

Dear Tourism Industry Colleague,

We are pleased to extend to your business an opportunity to join our Destination Marketing Organization and participate in the many collaborative marketing programs directed at the positive development of tourism in the Kootenay Rockies region.

Our regional boundaries include the Alberta border with British Columbia in the east, the US border with Canada in the south and extend north to the centres of Revelstoke and Golden and west to the Thompson Okanagan region.

As one of British Columbia’s six official Regional Destination Marketing Organizations, we are contracted to Tourism British Columbia, a Crown Corporation, to deliver cost-shared collaborative promotional programs. These programs are integrated with the overall provincial tourism strategies and are supported financially by TBC.

Our goals are essentially very straight forward. We are committed to building business for our members and assisting in the development of a strong, sustainable tourism industry for our region and for British Columbia. We believe an industry of this nature can play a key role in providing dynamic business opportunities, job creation and an increase in quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

We invite you to join us as a member of Kootenay Rockies Tourism and be a part of the Kootenay Rockies tourism industry...............an industry with a bright future.

Thank you for your interest.

Yours in tourism,

Chris Dadson

President, Kootenay Rockies Tourism

Destination Marketing

The mandate of Kootenay Rockies Tourism is "to generate tourism revenues by the development, coordination and execution of collaborative destination marketing programs on behalf of the members of Kootenay Rockies Tourism."

Collaborative destination marketing is cost-effective because programs are cost-shared amongst a number of participants and these funds are additionally levered with provincial funds to further increase effectiveness.

In addition, travellers generally do not plan vacations around individual businesses – in isolation of other factors important to their travel. A destination’s other amenities and infrastructure play a key role in the holiday decision-making process.

Destination Branding

An important element of destination marketing is branding. The ‘Kootenay Rockies’ brand:

bulletProvides a general descriptive image of the region‘s
tourism products.
bulletCapitalizes on existing name recognition and
association.
bulletDevelops long-term product equity.
bulletSupports and adds value to individual product offerings.
bulletDifferentiates the products of the destination with those of
competitors.
bulletEnhances consumer loyalty.

Active Membership

Kootenay Rockies Tourism Active Memberships are available to businesses and organizations operating facilities/services which are components of a Kootenay Rockies vacation package and/or experience.

Active Memberships are available in one of four activity categories or in the Accommodation/Food and Beverage/Retail/Transportation Sector. The principal business function of the member determines the type of membership held.

Members may participate in all marketing initiatives for which their business is eligible. Eligibility is determined on a project-by-project basis under a number of criteria including size of project budget, number of members requesting participation and applicability to the customer's needs.

Active Memberships are available under the following activity categories:

bulletTouring and Getaway Vacations
bulletSnowsport Vacations
bulletGolf Vacations
bulletAdventure Vacations

Multiple Memberships

Some members of Kootenay Rockies Tourism may find it advantageous to hold membership in more than one category. The eligibility for project participation includes a criteria with significant weighting to the membership category, in some cases. As an example, major resorts operating golf, ski and wellness or adventure facilities may wish to maintain the best possible project eligibility opportunities. Additional memberships over and above the member's principal membership are available at a rate of 50% of regular cost.

Consortium Membership

Kootenay Rockies Tourism Active Memberships are available to tourism marketing consortiums at the same rate as individual businesses. Member consortiums are required to identify a single contact person, address and phone/fax/email for project inclusion, authorization and billing.

Kootenay Rockies Tourism Active Memberships are also available to Chambers of Commerce at the same rate as individual businesses.

Marketing initiatives conducted by consortiums and Chambers may include only one contact address and one call-to-action (eg: 800 number) unless all participants in the marketing message are individually members of Kootenay Rockies Tourism.

Accommodation /Food and Beverage/Retail/Transportation Membership

Active memberships are also available in categories of Accommodation Sector, Food and Beverage Sector, Retail Sector and Transportation Sector. These are available only to businesses who operate accommodation/food and beverage/retail/transportation facilities within the boundaries of the destination.

This membership category is intended to make marketing participation more affordable for members whose business is a component of the packages of  many activities, but whose marketing budgets are not directed to any one particular product.
