Castlegar has many heritage sites to delight visitors, one being the Doukhobor Village
Museum. This museum will introduce you to the Doukhobor culture and heritage, and provide
reminders of Canada's early western frontier.
A reconstructed communal village is the site for the collection of handmade household
furniture, handspun clothing, embroidery, farm machinery and tools.
It also features a textile display room, blacksmith shop
and steam sauna. New exhibits are presented yearly showcasing aspects of the
Doukhobor history including
art exhibits, a photo archive and continuous films.
Nearby are other features of historical interest such
as
the Doukhobor suspension bridge (built in 1913) and
the tomb of Peter V. Verigin near Brilliant.
